ANIC Welcomes and Supports Senator Fatima Payman’s Recent Courageous Stance
The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) welcomes and supports Senator Fatima Payman’s recent courageous stance in Canberra, calling out Israel for its genocidal policies against the Palestinian people, and urging the Prime Minister and her government to sanction the Israeli government and to “stand for what is right”.
Senator Fatima Payman’s words resonate deeply with many: “My conscience has been uneasy for far too long and I must call this out for what it is.” She also added, “This is a genocide and we need to stop pretending otherwise. The lack of clarity, the moral confusion, the indecisiveness is eating at the heart of this nation.”
Her speech coincided with the commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the ‘Nakba,’ which involved the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and the obliteration of Palestinian communities as a means of establishing the State of Israel in 1948 and continuing.
We demand the Australian government and all people of conscience to follow and support Senator Payman’s call, to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and to pursue justice for Palestine and the rights of the Palestinians. We call for an immediate end to the war on Gaza and the suffering of innocent Palestinians and impose sanctions on the state of Israel.
ANIC echoes Senator Payman’s call for the freedom of the Palestinian people, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free “.
