AAM and ANIC Call on Australia to Align with Allies in Condemning Israel’s Violations

The Alliance of Australians for Muslims (AAM) and the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) strongly urge the Australian Government to take a principled and decisive stance on the occupying state of Israel’s illegal military escalation in Gaza.

On Monday, Australia’s key allies, France, the United Kingdom and Canada, issued a joint statement warning of potential diplomatic consequences should Israel persist in its expansion of military operations and continued obstruction of humanitarian aid, violating international law. Their condemnation underscores the growing international concern over Israel’s conduct. Australia must join this collective stand.

Since the onset of hostilities, Israel has accelerated the seizure of Palestinian land at an alarming rate. Its latest announcement regarding intensified military operations in Gaza further underscores concerns about the threat to Palestinian statehood and sovereignty by seeking to forcibly displace the Palestinian population into neighbouring countries. These actions have been echoed by inflammatory statements from senior members of the Knesset, who have publicly expressed support for a permanently occupied Gaza. The latest UN reports reveal 14,000 babies are at risk of dying, given the two-month aid blockade orchestrated by the occupying state of Israel. This humanitarian catastrophe demands urgent and principled action by the Australian Government.

We urge the Australian Government to immediately impose targeted sanctions and an arms embargo on Israel, suspend all diplomatic ties, and recall the Australian Ambassador.

The events of the past two months have made it clear that the Israeli Government’s 19-month war is not about ending the conflict; it is about entrenching a strategy of permanent removal of Palestinians through ethnic cleansing and genocide.
