The Alliance of Australians for Muslims (AAM) and the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) strongly condemn the occupying state of Israel’s bombardment and kidnapping of 12 activists onboard the humanitarian flotilla Madleen, which was bound for Gaza.
Madleen, attempting to break the Israeli naval blockade on Gaza imposed since 2007 to deliver aid to the enclave, was ambushed by Israeli forces who had been terrorising the crew since the start of their mission. The occupying state has once again breached international law and desecrated the very meaning of human rights, all without consequence.
The 2 million starving Palestinians can no longer wait for endless discussions and empty promises; they need immediate action. Israel’s orchestrated starvation and the collapse of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation are abysmal failures directly costing lives.
AAM and ANIC call on the Australian government to take a principled stand against these human rights violations and pressure the Israeli government to release all hostages and allow the Madleen to complete its humanitarian mission. Therefore, we urgently call upon the following actions:
- An immediate two-way arms embargo on Israel.
- The recall of Australia’s ambassador to Israel and the expulsion of Israel’s ambassador.
- Pressure to dramatically increase the flow of aid into Gaza without Israeli or US interference.
- A clear condemnation of Israel’s ongoing violations of international law, including its perpetration of genocide in Gaza, and the recognition Netanyahu as a war criminal.
