THE MONTH OF THUL HIJJAH & DAY OF EID AL-ADHA 1447H I 2026

All praise is due to Allah the Almighty, and peace and blessings upon our Prophet Mohammad, the final messenger of Allah.

The Grand Mufti of Australia, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohamad, and the Australian Fatwa Council are mindful of maintaining the Muslim community’s unity, particularly during Islamic occasions and celebrations. Therefore, the Grand Mufti of Australia and the Australian Fatwa Council would like to take this opportunity to make the following announcement: 

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Custodians of the two sacred cities Makkah and Madinah, where the rituals of Hajj, including Tawaf, Sa’i, and standing at Arafat, are performed, has announced that Monday, 18th May 2026, is the first day of the Month of Thul Hijjah 1447 after the Hijrah (Migration of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)). 

As a result, the Grand Mufti of Australia, Dr. Ibrahim Abu Mohamad, announces that:

Tuesday, 26th May 2026, will be the Day of Arafah (9th of Thul Hijjah) &

Wednesday, 27th of May 2026 (10th of Thul Hijjah) Will be the Day of Eid Al-Adha for the Year 1447H I 2026

The Grand Mufti of Australia, Dr. Ibrahim Abu Mohamad, the Australian Fatwa Council and the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) take this opportunity to congratulate the entire Muslim world and the Australian Muslim community on celebrating Eid Al-Adha for the year 1447H – 2026.

The Australian National Imams Council acknowledges, understands, and respects the opinions of Imams and scholars who may hold different views. It calls upon the community to respect these differences of opinion and strive towards the greater good and unity of the Muslim community.

We ask Allah the Almighty to accept your worship, intentions, and sacrifices during these blessed days and nights, to accept the Hajj of all Hujaj, to return them safely to their families, and to make it easy upon our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Palestine, and the entire world.
