The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) strongly condemns the recent missile and drone attacks carried out by the Houthi movement against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports, infrastructure and populated areas.
Recent Houthi attacks have struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and other civilian aviation facilities, resulting in the deaths of civilians and injuries to hundreds of people, including international visitors and pilgrims. Further attacks have targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Saudi Aramco facilities.
ANIC unequivocally condemns the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. Such attacks endanger innocent lives, spread fear among communities and threaten the safety and security of citizens, residents, visitors and the millions of Muslims who travel to the Kingdom each year for Hajj, Umrah and visitation.
Saudi Arabia is the land of the Two Holy Mosques, Al-Haramain, in Makkah and Madinah, and holds a unique and sacred place in the hearts of Muslims around the world. The Kingdom and its leadership carry the immense responsibility and honour of serving and protecting the Two Holy Mosques and the millions of Muslims who visit them every year.
Any attack that threatens the safety and security of Saudi Arabia, its people, residents, visitors or pilgrims is therefore a matter of deep concern to Muslims globally. The safety of the Al-Haramain and those who travel to worship there must never be endangered by regional conflict or political disputes.
ANIC expresses its sincere condolences to the families of those who have been killed and extends its prayers and wishes for the swift recovery of all those injured.
ANIC calls for the immediate cessation of missile and drone attacks against Saudi Arabia and the protection of civilians, civilian infrastructure, airports and facilities serving pilgrims and visitors.
ANIC stands in solidarity with the people of Saudi Arabia during this difficult period and prays for the protection of the Kingdom, the land of the Al-Haramain and the Two Holy Mosques, and for the safety of its people, residents and visitors, as well as peace, security and stability in Saudi Arabia and the wider region.
